DISABILITY MANAGEMENT AND REHABILITATION CENTRE (DMRC)

The Disability Management and Rehabilitation Center (DMRC) operates as a department of Hulhumale’ Hospital, with a core objective of empowering individuals with disabilities through a comprehensive range of interventions and rehabilitative care. DMRC adopts a holistic approach, where a multi-disciplinary team, work together to provide rehabilitation and treatment to the patients. The ultimate goal of DMRC is to assist patients in reclaiming their abilities and regaining their independence.

DMRC offers services in the main following areas:

  • PHYSIOTHERAPY
  • Electrotherapy
  • Manipulative procedures
  • Therapeutic exercises
  • Ultrasound therapy
  • Balance training
  • Gait training
  • Post Burn’s therapy
  • Neuro rehabilitation
  • Cardio rehabilitation, etc.
  • Physiotherapy services are available from 08:00 to 10:00 every day except Fridays and public holidays by appointment.
  • Once instructed by the doctor for physiotherapy, register with the request slip given by the doctor at the OPD counter of the hospital or by calling the hospital on 1417 or 3350178.
  • SPEECH THERAPY
  • Speech-Language therapy works to prevent, assess, diagnose, and treat speech language disabilities, social communication, cognitive-communication and swallowing disorders in children and adults.
  • Provide aural rehabilitation for individuals who have hearing disabilities and provide augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems for individuals with severe expressive and/or language comprehensive disorders.
  • Provide service to those who have speech and language difficulties due to a neurological disorder (e.g. Parkinson's disease, dementia, stroke, motor neuron disease).
  • Train and provide education to family/caregivers and other professionals with collaboration with each other to ensure that the best care is given to patients.
  • Speech therapy is available by appointment, on Sundays, Mondays and Tuesdays each week.
  • Once your doctor recommends speech therapy, you should register by calling the hospital on 1417 or 3350178.
  • OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY
  • Conducting physical and psychological assessments of clients
  • Developing or following a personalized therapy plan to achieve the most effective results.
  • Evaluating results and progress of occupational therapy on clients.
  • Organizing and maintaining patient medical and treatment records and documenting therapy sessions and approaches.
  • Assessing clients' home and work environments and deciding what adjustments are needed.
  • Advising and coordinating the supply of adaptive equipment to help clients with daily activities.
  • Preparing clients for a return to work.
  • Educating caregivers and family members of clients on patient care.
  • Referring clients to other organizations and facilities according to their service needs.
  • Working in the multidisciplinary approach to develop and implement effective and holistic treatment plans.
  • PSYCHO-SOCIAL SUPPORT
  • Evaluating clients' physical and mental well-being.
  • Conducting physical and psychological assessments of clients.
  • Developing or following a personalized therapy plan to achieve the most effective results.
  • Evaluating results and progress of psychosocial therapy on clients.
  • Organizing and maintaining patient treatment records and documenting therapy sessions and approaches.
  • Psycho-Social Support services are available from 08:00 to 10:00 every day except Weekends and public holidays by appointment.
